Stranger Things’ Brilliant Branding
Whether a fan of Stranger Things or not, their selection of brand partners is precise and near perfect. From basic product placement like Eggo and Coke, to partnerships with Baskin Robbins with their pop-up Scoops Ahoy stores, Stranger Things stayed true to their storyline and ultimately the 80’s nostalgia branding. Although clearly GoT had the numbers, I’m not sure that adds up to a win. Referenced in the BI article below, the Oreo tie-in confounds me. What about activation? I’ve watched every season more than once, and rarely saw any characters eat (oh hashtagRedWedding) much less dine on cookies. Wine sure, beer maybe, but cookies definitely not. Brands + Stranger Things = Collaboration. Brands + GoT = Licensing. Big difference in marketing strategies.
